Good afternoon everyone, I’ve got a 2002 VW golf tdi 1.9 alh engine code and she’s got a nasty smoke. when revving engine it smokes out from the engine and the tailpipe. It’s a darker whitish and smells absolutely terrible. Like pure diesel oil. When it happens it blows straight through my air vents and fills the car and right out the
I have the choice to change engines now, my old engine is pap and I am more of a diesel man then a petrol head. I tried to find a good 1.9 tdi to suit the syncro with a better fuel consumption and more power. The other guys around me got ideas for the 1.9 td aaz golf 3 engine, but "eish" 75kw is weak for a kombi, I need a bit more power then that.
One of the most common issues are related to the TDI 2.5 engine. Considering that I almost nothing about engines, my general understanding is that a TDI 2.0 is the most reliable one, followed by 1.9 and finally 2.5. However, I'm very confused by the whole matter, and I would like to know what you think on the topic.
Displacement alone is not a good indicator of power output, particularly for turbocharged engines. The mapping is probably the most important factor, which determines fuelling, boost and injection timing. My 1.9 PD 130 can be remapped to at least 170 simply by changing the software. The 1.9 is an 8 valve engine, whereas the 2.0 is 16 valve.
The engine range of the Passat Alltrack consists of two 2.0 litre TDI with outputs of 103 kW/140 hp & 125 kW/170 hp and two petrol engines, 1.8-litre producing 118 kW/160 hp and 2.0 litre TSI producing 155 kW/207 hp.
Oct 31, 2013. Location. Uk. TDI. Sharan 1.9 tdi. Nov 1, 2013. #3. We did wiggle the actual connection into the tandem point and it felt loose but I am not sure how it fits into the pump, there was no hissing from it, we gave it a quick squirt with light oil to see if it went quiet but made no difference.
Meaning the entire bottom end of every 1.9 TDI is almost swappable with each other. We haven't tested this yet so don't quote me. But it would seem from initial inspection that every 1.9 TDI bottom end is practically the same. And for the two point oh, all they changed was the bore.

The real 1.9 TDi makes it's peak power at 3750-4000rpm, and peak torque at 1900rpm. This mod reaches peak power and torque at 6000 rpm. This makes the engine extremely underpowered and lacking low rpm torque (something this engine should excel at). If you look online for "darkside developments dyno" they have a ton of dyno charts for VW diesel
Unlike the 1.9 TDI, the 2.0 TDI is plagued with a laundry list of potential problems, including the oil pump, the injectors, and the dual mass flywheel. If you can live with the lower power output of the 1.9, the 2.0 is best avoided.
